Vegetarians Mourn Loss of Three Restaurants

Vegetarians are mourning the loss of three prominent restaurants in Los Angeles County. Tin In in Alhambra, Chandni in Culver City, and Mother Earth in Los Angeles closed their doors during the last two months of 2001.

For over 10 years Tin In delighted patrons of Alhambra, a community northeast of Los Angeles, with their totally vegetarian Chinese menu featuring entrees like Lamb with Broccoli, Sausage with Pickled Cabbage, and Roast Duck, all plant-based items.

Chandni, specializing in Northern Indian vegetarian fare, has been a haven for vegetarians in West Los Angeles and the nearby beach cities. Its sister restaurant in Santa Monica is still open serving the same outstanding menu.

Mother Earth, although not completely vegetarian, offered a large menu of tasty vegetarian dishes with a European flavor for the last 17 years. Chef-owner Gertrude hopes to reopen in another location.
